THE UNIREACH GUIDE

Engineering-specific advice

  • As engineering isn’t taught at schools they want to know why you want to do it.
  • Make sure you know why you want to do it, what does the course entail
  • There is no expectation to definitely want to be an engineer when you graduate, you can just want to do the course
  • Think about what you enjoy at school.
  • Have you done ANYTHING related? This could be an interest in building model planes to visiting an engineering feat. What interested you?
  • You don’t need to include every type of engineering, if you are applying to non general courses you can make it all about that discipline – they expect this!
  • If you are stuck you can look at an institute's page! They can give information such as what that discipline means, resources and recommended exhibitions.
  • Reading is less necessary than in humanities, you won’t do much reading in your course! Reach articles, journal entries, chapters of books and why this is interesting
